I live in the country, so it’s very common to peek out my door or window and see deer in the yard or grazing peacefully in one of the horse paddocks. They are beautiful animals, but as there are more houses and people, there is less land for the deer to roam. This means that sometimes there are more deer than there should be in a given area. It also means that deer are going to show up in people’s yards and may become a nuisance. With a shortage of food, they’re happy to eat shrubs and, of course, steal veggies from people’s gardens.
Nuisance or not, deer are beautiful animals. And like in nearly every species, including deer and human, babies are very cute. So, when this little girl and her dad discovered a baby deer in their garden, dad was able to capture the adorable encounter between the two.
Because of living in such close proximity to humans, deer are often not afraid of their two-legged neighbors. Especially the younger deer who have not learned to fear people. In many areas, people will feed and care for orphaned fawns and raise them as pets.
However, it’s important to remember that deer are wild animals and can be dangerous and even aggressive, so they should be approached with caution. Furthermore, it is normal for a mother deer to leave a young fawn alone in a field or the woods. This helps to keep them safe from predators. If you see one, mama is probably nearby, watching. Please don’t touch them or move them — they are most likely not orphaned and will be just fine.
The young deer in this video doesn’t need rescuing but just wants to play a game of chase with its tiny new human friend. Watch their heartwarming meeting in the video below to see how that goes!
