‘Stoic’ police dog changes in front of officer’s eyes when little girl crawls toward him

People in law enforcement are typically known for being ‘tough.’

And so, we say the same with K9 dogs that aid these officers.

Most K9 unit dogs are big, tough, and highly skilled with what they do.

They can sniff danger or the person they need to rescue from miles apart.

Sonny is one of those K9 dogs who are always ready when it’s time for duty.

His paw-rent is Corporal Jason Frey of the Clinton Police Department in Connecticut. He said that Sonny was always ready to go on duty and go all out in “cop” mode.

Whenever he saw Jason in his police uniform, Sonny immediately climbed into the patrol car.

He shared with The Dodo that he would sometimes vent, and it seemed like Sonny was listening to him.

He could also tell when he was happy or upset and would often respond to him (in barks, of course) to let Jason know he understood him.

But when they go home, Sonny immediately turns off his “cop” switch.

Jason and his wife, Lainey, considered Sonny their “whole world,” but that all changed when Lainey gave birth to their baby girl.

At first, they were afraid of how Sonny might react to not being the “baby” anymore.

They were surprised at how well he adjusted to having a baby around.

Contrary to his tough “cop” attitude, Sonny was very patient and sweet to his little sister. You can tell how vast his love is for little Reagan with his patience towards her.

Whether she’s playing with his paws, ears, or tail, he let her be.

He didn’t even react when she crawled all over him. His gentleness towards Reagan showed how he understood that he was already a big brother.

He would lick her face ever so gently or would snuggle up next to her, and Reagan looked like she enjoyed every bit of it.

When her dad and big brother weren’t home, Reagan would look lovingly at their photo.

Lainey captured this moment when she wondered why their little girl suddenly turned quiet.

She checked on her only to see Reagan staring at a photo of Jason and Sonny. It’s as if she knew that they were both at work but still felt their presence through that photo.

Now that Jason and Lainey had another baby girl, they knew she would be in good hands.
