Girl Shows Dad Her New “Piggy Bank” But Doesn’t Realize It Has One Fatal Flaw

Parents try to instill good money-saving habits in children at a young age. They usually give children a piggy bank to collect their pennies. Children are also creative. One young girl found an interesting coin slot she thought was the best piggy bank ever. Running to tell her dad, she dragged him back to her new coin stash.

Imagine his surprise when he saw the tiny coin disappear through the hole in the strike plate and drop into the abyss behind the door jamb. Retrieving the coins will require some home renovation. Removing the edge molding and the door jamb might not be too difficult for a handy person, but for someone with no skills, it means hiring someone else to do the job.

The young girl was so proud of her discovery. We aren’t sure how the strike plate got bent into that position. It should be flat to allow the door to close fully, and the end of the latch should catch to hold the door closed. We understand how the young girl could mistake the strike plate and latch recess for a coin slot.

There is no telling how long the little tyke has been stashing her cash in her “piggy bank.” It might be time for Dad to take all the girls out and get them real banks.

As for the lost coins? They can offer the kid ten dimes and forget about trying to retrieve them. Or they can do the renovation work. They could write a note about how the coins got in the wall, fold it small enough to fit, and drop it down the hole for some future homeowners to find.
