You may have noticed a young child named Addie Bryan if you were in a certain Dallas, Texas neighborhood. If you did see her, you probably saw the sign she was holding up for motorists to see. This little angel was asking for donations for her birthday, but for what? You’ll be shocked at the answer!
Addie spent a lot of her childhood in Texas Scottish Rite Hospital. She was their either because of surgery, recovery or physical therapy. Why? Addie was born with a condition known as Larsen syndrome, a condition that caused her skeletal system to develop incorrectly.
When Addie was born, her doctors were scared that she wouldn’t walk because her legs were somewhat shaped backward. Addie had to undergo four surgeries and wore about 65 casts to correct the issue. But it paid off! Addie can walk, run and play just like any other kid, thanks to the intensive care she received from the hospital. Now she wants to help!
Her sign read “For my birthday wish, I want to raise $8,000 for Texas Scottish Rite Hospital,” according to WFAA, a local news station.
When the station published her picture and story, it became viral almost instantly. She had hoped to raise $8,000 in the beginning, but was shocked at how much she actually managed to raise!
She hit almost $20,000 in donations quickly. Then, Addie got a letter in the mail from a donor, applauding her efforts. In the letter was another donation, this time to the tune of $50,000!
Addie received medical care due to the generosity of the hospital, as her parents were unable to afford her treatments. Many hospitals rely on donations to help those who cannot afford treatment, such as Addie and her family.
Addie definitely knows right from wrong and is a shining example of how generous one person can be and how one person has the ability to make a difference. Many children will now get the treatment they need due to her efforts. It also shows us just how strong viral media can be! Thanks to this story being shared all over the internet, Addie was able to far exceed her original goal. We think Addie is truly amazing for all her love and generosity!
