Teacher hops on stage at talent show for dance routine that brings down house

YouTube has seen its fair share of ‘Evolution of Dance’ videos, but it’s not every day that a teacher steals the show with such a performance.
Mr. T, an art teacher at Reid Park Academy, an elementary school in Charlotte, North Carolina, did just that.

At the school’s talent show, he decided to give his students a performance they would never forget.

Imagine Mr. T, decked out in a windbreaker, a sideways baseball cap, sunglasses, and draped in gold chains, grooving to the biggest dance hits from the 1980s to the present.

His energy was infectious, and as he started his routine, the students erupted into cheers.
It was clear Mr. T was a favorite among the kids – after all, not every teacher would put on a dance routine like this!
Mr. T didn’t just dance; he embodied the spirit of each era, starting with iconic 80s hits like Salt-n-Pepa’s “Push It.”
The excitement was through the roof – some students couldn’t help but jump up and join him, while another teacher couldn’t resist capturing the moment on her phone, laughing in delight at his incredible moves.

The performance didn’t just stay within the walls of the school.
Once uploaded to YouTube, it garnered attention, and Mr. T himself stepped in to answer some questions.

He revealed that his performance was inspired by Judson Lappily’s original ‘Evolution of Dance’ viral video.

This nod to a YouTube classic showed Mr. T’s connection not just to dance history, but to contemporary pop culture as well.

Dance crazes have been a part of our culture for centuries, with viral dances dating back to the early 20th century.

Long before the 1980s, dances like the Foxtrot in 1914, the Charleston in the 1920s, and the “Buzz” in the 1930s caught on like wildfire.

These dances spread through clubs and parties worldwide, showing how dance has always been a shared language across generations.

The 2000s and 2010s saw the rise of dances like the Dab, Soulja Boy, Dougie, and the iconic Single Ladies dance from Beyonce’s 2009 music video.

Other hits included the Nae Nae and the Stanky Legg, referenced by celebrities from Ellen DeGeneres to Hillary Clinton.

Mr. T’s performance included these modern moves, resonating deeply with his students who grew up with these dances.

His routine has since been viewed over fifteen million times on YouTube, a testament to its widespread appeal and his skill as a dancer.

It’s not just the dance that captivated viewers, but the joy and energy he brought to it.

The impact of Mr. T’s performance went beyond just views and likes.
This sentiment echoes the feelings of many who watched the video, highlighting the inspirational nature of Mr. T’s performance.

While Mr. T has since moved on to teach at a different school, his legacy at Reid Park Academy remains.

His students will undoubtedly remember his enthusiasm and his incredible dance moves for years to come.
